I really don’t know where to start from to describe yesterday.
After breakfast and doing some “work”, my friends and I were taken to Hyde Park to watch the Olympic Torch Relay Finale but the verb taken is not enough to describe how as we were driven there in the English Nation Football Team’s coach! Yes, you got it right, the one David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and many others use to travel around! It was pretty exciting and actually many people were waving at us as we were going around London streets thinking that the players were travelling in it.
On our arrival to Hyde Park, it only took us a moment to realise how exciting the atmosphere was. Thousands of people coming from all over the world were gathering to watch the Torch Relay Finale. Samsung and Coca-Cola as the main sponsors of the London Olympic Games were there and they were both not easy to hide as the people were literally packing in queues to get a look at the newest flagship products of Samsung and play games at Coca-Cola’s stands.
London has always been the birthplace of some of the best music we have been enjoying in the past decades, so Hyde Park was thriving with music. On stage we had a chance to see Katy B, The Wanted, rapper Dizzee Rascal calling everyone to dance and creating a party-like atmosphere as everybody was waiting for the Olympic flame to arrive on stage. The crowd got enthusiastic with the arrival of the Flame carried by Tyler Rix who lit the Olympic Torch at the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay finale concert.
Boris Johnson, London’s Mayor was pretty excited to be there and happy to tell us how London will be holding the best Olympic Games ever and how the English athletes will be doing so well that as he said “We have enough gold, silver and bronze medals to bail out Greece and Spain.” As a Greek, I can’t help it but wish Mr Johnson’s wish does come true. He is most welcome to bail us out.
